Five Wooden Toys to Grow With Your Baby
Five Wooden Toys That Will Grow With Your Baby
It’s no secret that wooden toys are timeless and have so much to offer your child and their development. While they may not have the buttons, lights, sounds and other ‘flashy’ features that come with plastic toys – they are definitely not boring!
Here are just some of their benefits:
Wooden toys are much more durable than their plastic counterparts. This means, when you buy a wooden toy for your child, their siblings will be able to use them down the track and you know you are going to get your money’s worth from them.
Wooden toys offer a tactile experience. They can touch them, hold them in their hands. Explore different shapes and different weights. Smell the wood and what it reminds them of, bringing them closer to nature. And, of course, it will likely end up in little one’s mouths as well for the full sensory experience.
Wooden toys encourage open-ended play, which means they can be engaged with in many different ways. Blocks can be used to build tall towers, create castle moats, put together villages, build pirate ships. Kids are only bound by their imaginations, so the possibilities are endless.
Plastic toys often do everything for kids. They talk to them, they light up for them, they respond to touch… with wooden toys kids are encouraged to use their imagination, which is a powerful tool. They CHOOSE how to play with the toy, and each time this can be a different experience for them.
This really is the toy that keeps on giving. If it’s open-ended play you are after, then this is your answer. The Grimms Rainbow can be used in so many different ways, it really is up to the imagination of the child. They can be tunnels for cars. They can be stacked to build tall towers. They can be turned upside down and used as beds for your favourite Riff Raff cuddly. In fact, if you jump on Instagram you can follow the hashtag #grimmschallenge and find something new to do each and every day.
They come in several colours, rainbow, pastel, sunset as well as a few different sizes.

3. Wobbel Board
Have you heard of the Wobbel Board? If not, you’re missing out. This one is as much fun for the adults as it is for the kids. Once again, it’s great for encouraging open-ended play, as the possibilities are just endless. Kids can also practise their balance and coordination, standing inside the board and wobbling it from side to side. It can turn into a bridge for climbing, a tunnel for cars, a ramp, a slide, an extra seat, a step stool, a see saw, a ship. It supports physical awareness and balance and will be used for years.

4. Marble Tree
I know, I know, many parents hate the idea of musical toys in their home, but trust me, you are going to love this one. The sound it makes as the marble clinks its way down the wooden tree is delightful and you will never tired of it. Little fingers get to practise their fine motor skills, while learning how music is madde and how they can make different sounds by using more marbles, popping them down faster and more. Plus, they can also practise their colours and it looks gorgeous! A great addition to the playroom at home.
There are some cheaper versions around now but looking at the reviews for the sake of your ears I would try and find the original (Magic Tree).
You can buy them here at Oskars Wooden Ark or Entropy
5. Cooking or Kitchen Set
Pretend play is always a winner, as kids just love to mimic what they see you do! This gorgeous baking set lets them step into their own kitchen and get creating. Turn their play area into a café and let them serve you (for a change!), host their own cooking show, open up a supermarket, play happy families, and so on. One toy, so many different ways to get creative.
Wooden Wonderland has pretty much got your wooden kitchen covered! Vegetables, tea parties, pizza - you name it they have it in wood to be served to you time and time (and time!) again.
It’s so great to be able to encourage a child’s imagination and engage them in play. As parents we want to be able to pick a toy out for them that will last the distance and get plenty of use out of. It’s not about the quantity of toys, but their quality. After a long day of creative play, your little one will be ready to snuggle up in bed with their Riff Raff friend as their mind processes a big day of learning.
Beautiful product would recommend it
My little girl has had her Riff Raff from the day she was born and loves it!, she’s almost 2. Iv never had trouble with it. I now buy them for all my new mummy friends as a baby shower gift. Bandit the Raccoon is a Gift for a little boy due in January. I’m sure he will love it!
My nephew absolutely loves his Raffy, Thank you Riff Raff.x
This toy is my hero! It works a treat….. can’t recommend this baby sleep toy highly enough. We finally get our nights back!
Ollie received his Riff as a gift. Now his 8 weeks old and we’ve already seen improvement during the dreaded witching hour of an evening and time it takes for him to settle to sleep on his own! He also wasn’t a fan of his rocker, but Riff sorted that out too! Thank you!
I bought one for my first daughter 16 months ago & she’s still to this day obsessed and won’t sleep without her fawn riff raff
So I went and bought my second daughter one & it arrived today & instantly she fell asleep while cuddling her koala riff raff
Thankyou for such a wonderful product, I will be getting them both a wash day spare ones for daycare when they start !
Thankyou for your quick response and action in fixing a problem, our Granddaughter just loves her Riff Raffs, We brought the Bunny for her house then later brought the Raccon for ours and she just loves them especially sleep time.
OMG My baby boy absolutely loves his riff raff, we named him roofy as daddy is a roofer! Calms him down and sends him off to sleep every time!
It’s beautiful quality and he loves cuddling into it.
I initially was not keen on the idea of introducing our 1 year old daughter to a bedtime comforter unless she appeared to be anxious or lonely. However our friend in Victoria sent Riff the Fox (or Foxy Riff as we call him) to WA as a present and it’s been an increasingly popular gift. First the music soothed her, then she cuddled it instead of us at night, then she used it as a comforter when starting playgroup and now at the age of 2 he goes everywhere with her and she uses him as an ice breaker when speaking to people. Over time we have also received a spare which we swap for washing / daycare and the bedtime book and the towel set and she loves them all. So glad this came into our daughters life.
We got clover when my twin girls were 4months old and going through leap 4 and they were very unsettled. Sleep would only last 20mins if I was lucky.
I ordered them because I had hear only great things, my only thing was I have to buy 2 being twins so it was a $130 gamble... well it definitely paid off and some!
My girls both settle well at home or out and about wil Clover by their sides. If you're having doubts I would definitely recommend... I tell everyone they are a lifesaver.
Thanks Riff Raff!!
Honestly, where can I even begin 😭 my 3rd child and I was sure she wouldn’t sleep as her brother and sister were naturally great sleepers. Prepared for the worst and we got a raffy! Used it from the minute she was born on white noise and 3 months later on lullaby and honestly, GOD SEND. Billie is obsessed, we’re obsessed, so worth it and god forbid the day I rush out of the house and forget it- so we have one for the car/pram as well!!! Thank you ❤️
Gift for a friends newborn. Love that an Aussie animal is now available. My son was gifted Raff 5 years ago and still loves him.
I bought this toy for my son at six months old after he started waking up several times overnight and barely sleeping during the day. He took to it immediately. It really helped our day time routine and helps him sleep at home and out in the pram
My baby absolutely loves it. Never sleeping without his buddy "Riff"
I was a little skeptical about this little toy as I wasn’t sure if it was going to be both the money, and it ended up being one of my fave purchases!! It pays womb sounds with a heartbeat and a lullaby too! My 6wk old baby adores it and sleeps almost as soon as it’s turned on! We use it constantly,
I’m definitely going to be buying a back up.
